When I hit my puberty, my spine curved, and no one even noticed!!!! If you don’t want your child to travel to this curvy road, then let me take you an insight into this condition: ‘SCOLIOSIS’.

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional spine deformity characterized by lateral and rotational curvature of the spine. Instead of a straight line down the middle of the back, a spine with scoliosis curves. And guess what? It sometimes starts looking like the letter ‘S’ or ‘C’ rather than a straight ‘I’.

Scoliosis-detail

There are numerous forms of scoliosis however the most common type includes ‘Idiopathic Adolescence Scoliosis’. The Mystery is idiopathic scoliosis, as no one knows for sure why people get it.

Medical science is increasingly focusing on disease prevention rather than disease treatment. In the absence of the ability to prevent the occurrence of scoliosis, the focus of attention should be on early identification in order to prevent complications brought on by the disease.

‘Scoliosis can progress very rapidly, especially as children go through their puberty growth spurt.’

How will you know whether your child is developing a curved spine?

Things that you can access

  • Luckily, there is a test available for scoliosis for which u can assess your child at home. The Adam’s forward bending.
  • Ask your child to remove their shirt and stand with their back to you.

Scoliosis-Adams Test

  • While your child is standing up straight, look for visible signs of scoliosis which are mentioned above. Now ask your child to bend forward from the waist.
  • Once your child is in the forward bending position, observe at their back. Does one side of their rib cage look higher than the other?
  • If you notice any obvious unevenness, then that may potentially be a sign of scoliosis.
